2015 CLASS INFORMATION

 Rooms 19 & 20

CLASS STRUCTURE

This year our unit comprises Year  2 & 3 children.  At this stage we have 56 children.  Schools are one of the few places where people are grouped according to age.  The structure of classes changes each year depending on the number of students.  There are advantages and disadvantages for students and teachers in any class structure, just as there would be advantages or disadvantages for families who e.g. have triplets or 3 children of varying ages.

LEARNING AND TEACHING

As a parent you are your child’s first and most important teacher.  You have already watched and guided your child to learn many, many things.  Think about when your children learnt to walk.  They progressed in bursts, reaching milestones in their own good time.  No doubt much praise and encouragement was given by you at each stage of development, and you always believed that they would walk one day.  Similarly at school, children progress uniquely, picking up some things quickly, needing more time for others.  When learning new things children need the conditions to be right and they need to be ready.  As teachers we foster a safe and happy environment where children are valued, praised and encouraged to take risks.

TEAM TEACHING

We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to work in a team teaching situation, as we strongly believe that it provides many positive outcomes for the children and for ourselves. All the children will be doing the same things together.

2015 TEACHERS

At this stage the following teachers will contribute to your child’s learning.

Ms Gehling - Science

Ms Sumner - Music and Drama

Mrs Krasnoff - Japanese

Mr Halliday– P.E

Mrs Woolley (half a term) - Pottery

PARENT PARTICIPATION/COMMUNICATION

We will be working on sending out class newsletters electronically as needed, in addition to notices regarding special events.  If you have any items for insertion in our newsletters, please feel free to let us know.

This year the students have a diary.  This is used for a variety of purposes and it is expected that each child will keep their diary in their folder unless they have a note to show us.

We strongly urge all parents with any concerns to contact us personally or via your childs' diary , to arrange an appropriate time to discuss those concerns.  We are not available Tuesdays after school   (staff meeting).  Please keep us informed as soon as possible of any changes to home circumstances or any family issues, as even small changes can effect children's behaviour at school.

Mornings
Duty of care begins at 8.35a.m.  That is the time children may enter the classroom.
Children are expected to do the following before

  •  place bag in their own locker
  •  put library books in the yellow box
  •  relay any messages, notes to us or front-office, bookroom etc.
  •  put recess/lunch orders in lunch box
  •  put folders/diaries in class box

PLEASE encourage your child to do these jobs themselves.
We do not allow children to play outside before school.

LUNCHES

Children are supervised during eating time for a minimum of 10 minutes.  They must remain seated and eat quietly.  Children are expected to eat their savoury food during this time.  If you have any concerns please see us.
